A beautiful morning here in South Lincolnshire, with such a lovely book keeping me company. The Book Cat is based on real-life cat, Morgan, a stray who set up home at Faber and Faber during WW2 as resident mouser and door cat. In this story, Morgan embodies the Blitz spirit, helping those felines less fortunate than himself, providing food and shelter, on-the-job ‘Book Cat’ training and subsequently arranging ‘evacuation’ to new homes with unsuspecting authors and illustrators. It’s a heartwarming, sweet and entertaining story, beautifully illustrated by Clara Vulliamy. I have to say her dedication to her mum, the supremely talented Shirley Hughes, at the beginning of the book brought a little tear to my eye ?.
