This is my son’s favourite factual book at the moment, and if you know of any children who fancy becoming science magicians, then I think they’ll love this too! It’s packed with what the author calls ‘experiments that explore the magic of science and the science of magic’, which are simple enough for children around the 7 – 9 bracket to have a go at with minimal supervision. There are pranks, optical illusions and interesting facts, the experiment instructions are simple and clear, and you should have most of the items you need around the house. Hugo’s favourite experiment is the jumping drinks can, which he was so impressed with, he decided to recreate it at school for his ‘show and tell’. He’s also got a list lined up of the experiments he’s going to try during the summer holidays. Fingers crossed, I might actually get to drink a mug of tea in peace, or is that just wishful thinking?
